Community IT is pleased to partner with Class Acts Arts, Silver Springs, a leader in community arts education. Class Acts Arts envisions a shared community where the transformational power of the Arts is an essential part of daily life. To accomplish this, its mission is to engage local communities to create interactive arts experiences that inspire learning. They bring the Arts to people where they are.
Class Acts Arts was founded in 1995 in response to the demand for high quality, ethnically diverse cultural arts programs in our schools and communities. They reach hundreds of thousands of participants each year with performances, workshops and residencies taught by over 125 carefully vetted and well trained journeyman and master teaching artists who open doors to different cultures and learning experiences.
Class Acts Arts reaches communities throughout Maryland, DC and northern Virginia via three (3) programs: ArtChoice, arts education in schools and communities; ArtReach, serving those in need, and ArtWorks, career support of artists. They bring the Arts to hospitals, libraries, museums, places of worship, detention centers, recreation centers, senior centers and a great many schools.
In FY15, Class Acts Arts delivered 1500 programs to more than 230,000 children, adults and families. In the 20 years since its founding, Class Acts Arts has delivered 25,000 programs to 5,000,000 participants. Currently, 1/3 of our programming serves underserved communities. Through ArtReach, they have expanded programming to include those most lacking in access to the Arts. These include children from low-income minority households, seniors, special needs children and adults, court involved youth in correctional or detention settings, as well as wounded veterans and their families. In FY 15, Class Acts Arts delivered over 500 programs to 76,000 participants who lack regular access to the Arts.
Along with Class Acts Arts, Community IT believes that “Access to quality arts education programs should not be a function of zip code.”
