Price Increases for Microsoft 365 Subscriptions for Nonprofits
Microsoft’s nonprofit/charity programs changed the structure in 2021 on the way they provide licenses and subscriptions to nonprofits for their Microsoft software donation program and EM+S E3 security subscriptions for nonprofits. What Microsoft pricing changes for nonprofits are in the future?
Unfortunately now there is an upcoming and more traditional change: a price increase. Microsoft announced in March 2022 the following upcoming increases in Microsoft 365 subscription prices for U.S. nonprofit customers:
- Microsoft Office 365 E1: from 2.00 to 2.50 USD
- Microsoft Office 365 E3: from 4.50 to 5.75 USD
- Microsoft Office 365 E5: from 14.00 to 15.20 USD
- Microsoft 365 E3: from 8.00 to 9.00 USD
- Microsoft 365 Business Premium: from 5.00 to 5.50 USD
The price increases will go into effect on September 1, 2022. The price increase doesn’t impact the “grant” subscriptions that Microsoft offers to qualified nonprofits. Customers will still be able to receive up to 10 licenses of Microsoft 365 Business Premium and 300 licenses of Microsoft 365 Business Basic at no cost.
The increases correspond with recent increases to Microsoft’s commercial subscription pricing. Microsoft nonprofit/charity pricing will continue to be discounted approximately 75% off those commercial price points.
For customers who purchase Microsoft 365 subscriptions on an annual basis, the price increase will occur at their next renewal after September 1.
While any price increase that impacts the nonprofit sector is a disappointment, we are seeing price increases across the industry, and we continue to view Microsoft 365 Nonprofit/Charity prices as a great value to the nonprofit community. Microsoft pricing changes for nonprofits are an inevitable; and planning for the impact these changes can have should be part of your budget strategy and long term IT roadmap if you use these Microsoft products.
